Aaron Rodgers announced that he will take some of his salary in bitcoin going forward and said he’ll give away $1 million in the digital currency to his fans through a partnership with Cash App.

It’s unclear how much of bitcoin the Packers quarterback will receive, but his current contract pays him an average annual salary of $33.5 million, according to Sports Illustrated.

“Verified I’m excited about Bitcoin because I believe it’s the future of money: it’s valuable, super secure, and no one can mess with it. That’s why I’m teaming up with Cash App to take a portion of my salary in bitcoin today,” the star quarterback said on Instagram Monday.

“Bitcoin is new & the concept can be intimidating, so to make Bitcoin more accessible to my own fans I’m giving out a total of $1 million in btc now too.”

Rodgers also posted a video in which he was still donning his John Wick-inspired Halloween costume and declared, “Bitcoin to the moon.”

Rodgers isn’t the first NFL player to get paid in bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency in the world.

Offensive tackle Russell Okung used half of his $13 million salary to buy bitcoin in 2020. Giants star Saquon Barkley is also part of the movement of athletes investing in bitcoin.

Bitcoin surged to a record high last month after a few sleepy months that saw its price briefly cut in half.
