Volunteers cleaning up litter along a North Carolina roadside on Saturday found 10 dead dogs in black trash bags, authorities said.
The gruesome discovery was made in Robeson County during a community cleanup hosted by local law enforcement.
In a Saturday Facebook post, Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said the dogs were found in a flooded ditch.
Most of the dogs were pit bulls, the sheriff said, adding the discovery is under investigation.
The clean-up operation also netted a number of other odd finds, including a brand-new big screen TV, 200 tires, a refrigerator and a stove, the sheriff said.
