Somebody pinch Alan Kim (but not too hard).
The 8-year-old actor may have taken home the Critics’ Choice Award 2021 for Best Young Performer thanks to him role in acclaimed drama “Minari,” but it was his adorable acceptance speech that stole the show — at one point asking himself “Is this a dream?”
Kim stars opposite Steven Yeun in the film about a South Korean family in the 1980s who moves to the rural US. On Sunday night, the youngster broke down in tears upon receiving the award.
During the virtual ceremony, Kim started by thanking the critics who voted for his performance, but soon collapsed in tears especially as he began to list the family and loved ones who helped him through his breakout film debut.
Through sobs he added, “I hope I will be in other movies.”
“Is this a dream? I hope it’s not a dream,” he asked while accepting the award.
A clip of Kim’s “adorable” speech quickly went viral on social media.
“well alan kim winning a critics choice award just made me cry in the bath,” tweeted writer and producer Fran Tirado.
“OMG WHY IS ALAN KIM THE CUTEST KID EVER???? CRYING DURING HIS SPEECH!!! I WANT TO GIVE HIM A HUG!!!,” proclaimed awards show pundit Matt Neglia.
“Alan Kim is star, protect his tender heart at all costs,” wrote Canadian gender equality advocate Farrah Khan.
Yet as fans fawned over the sobbing actor, Kim consoled himself with a special treat as reward for his big win — and how better to comfort oneself than with junk food?
“Today is a special day! So I got permission to drink mountain dew!” said Kim in an Instagram post shared after last night’s win.
“Minari,” an Oscars 2021 best picture contender, also scored the Critics’ Choice award for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as a Golden Globe last month for the same award category.
