Max Scherzer parties after Dodgers Game 5 win over Giants

Work hard, play hard.

After the Dodgers overcame the Giants in a Game 5 division series thriller Thursday one of, the heroes of the night, Max Scherzer, had one thing on his mind — the post-game party.

When asked about whether he can start NLCS Game 1 on Saturday, the pitcher said, “I don’t know. Party tonight, figure it out tomorrow.”

Scherzer entered Game 5 as a reliever in the ninth, and threw 13 pitches — 11 of them strikes. The final out that ended the Giants’ season was on an 0-2 slider by Scherzer to Wilmer Flores, who appeared to check-swing the pitch and was called out.

“I like to party. I love winning,” he added.

Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said after the team’s Game 5 win that starting Scherzer for Game 1 for the NLCS is still the plan. Scherzer’s performance came on what normally would be his bullpen day, which should make for an easy adjustment.

In a post-game press conference, Dodgers star outfielder Mookie Betts was much calmer than Scherzer.

“I think this [win] is step one to our final goal. We can be happy right now, but I’m of the mindset that you have to turn the page and get ready for the next series and you can’t celebrate until you hold up that World Series trophy,” Betts said.

Scherzer chimed in, adding, “I’m with Mookie on that except, we can party hard tonight.”

Back in the locker room, the Dodgers celebrated with ski goggles and champagne showers.

Before he met up with the team, Scherzer went on a shirtless parade around Oracle Park. He wore bright green goggles and shorts while screaming in victory.

Scherzer watched his two young daughters run the bases after his big night to advance to the NLCS — something he had hoped for when the former Nationals star uprooted his family in July after a blockbuster trade that sent him to L.A.

“That’s what we do all these sacrifices for,” said Scherzer, the ace of the Nationals team that won the 2019 World Series.. “Put our family through the wringer, it’s to have these types of moments, to win, to be able to celebrate with them.”

The Dodgers and Braves will face off in the NLCS, beginning Saturday at Truist Park in Atlanta.
