This is a fry-tening situation.

McDonald’s is being forced to take medium and large-sized fries off the menu in its 2,900 locations across Japan — because potatoes are in short supply, the fast-food giant said Tuesday.

Japanese consumers will no longer be able to order the larger-sized side with their Big Macs starting Friday.

McDonald’s Holdings Co. Japan is blaming a flood at the port in Vancouver for its soggy mess and said it is exploring alternative flights to Japan to get the spuds quicker.

In the meantime, the company is instructing eateries to offer small portions of fries from Dec. 24 to Dec. 30 “to ensure that as many customers as possible will have continued access to our french fries,” according to a Bloomberg report.

The supply chain glitch should ease up by New Year’s Eve and deprived customers will get a 44 cent discount on their fries orders until bigger portions are allowed again, the company said.

Supplies of hash browns have not been affected, however.

It’s not the first time consumers have faced a French fry shortage.

In late 2019, farmers warned that a cold snap had damaged potato crops which could result in fewer fries on menus.
