Mitchell Robinson’s status iffy for Knicks preseason finale

Mitchell Robinson worked through another rigorous practice and scrimmage with the Knicks on Thursday, but head coach Tom Thibodeau wasn’t ready to declare whether the rehabbing center would be available for the preseason finale Friday against the Wizards.

“We’ll see how he feels [Friday], go through the shoot-around. And if he’s feeling good, we’ll give it a shot,” Thibodeau said. “The most important thing is to do it when he’s ready, not to rush it along. … But the next step for him is to play in a game.”

Thibodeau said Robinson, who has been sidelined since undergoing foot surgery in early March, continues to “make really good progress,” which the fourth-year center hopes bodes well for the regular-season opener Wednesday against Boston.

“I feel great, actually,” Robinson said. “I’m out there with the team now, so that’s one of the biggest parts. I’m back with the guys doing full-contact practice and stuff like that.

“I’m trying to see what’s happening [on Friday]. If Coach says, they say, I can go, I’m in there. As a player, I feel like I can go, but I’ve got to see what they say.

“Basically, getting back into it will be good, but I’m just gonna see how it goes.”

Center Nerlens Noel also missed the first three preseason games with knee and hamstring issues.

“He did quite a bit [Thursday], too, so I want to see where he is [Friday] and then we’re trying to move him along, too,” Thibodeau said. “It’s hard because right now, we have Mitch going through what he’s going through. He’s probably done more than Nerlens at this point.

“And then Nerlens, we’ve got to make sure that we get him up to speed, as well. But the great value is having Taj [Gibson], and so we feel like we’re in pretty good shape there.”

Thibodeau said he expects point guard Kemba Walker to play Friday after he was rested Wednesday against the Pistons. … The Knicks waived former Seton Hall guard Myles Powell, but they are expected to add him to their Westchester roster in the G-League. … The Knicks also waived guard Dwayne Bacon, a source confirmed. He was in camp on a non-guaranteed contract
