Kevin Durant won’t be re-joining the red-hot Nets any time soon.
Durant will miss at least three more games and not return until after the NBA All-Star break, the team announced Friday. The determination that he needs a longer recovery period was made after a routine follow-up MRI exam on his left hamstring.
“The latest images provided a clearer picture of the hamstring and while we are confident that Durant will return at full strength, this extra recovery time will allow him to perform at the level at which he has been playing this season once he returns,” the team said in a statement. “Durant will continue to undergo rehabilitation and be re-assessed following the break.”
Durant was supposed to serve as a captain March 7 in the NBA All-Star Game because he was the Eastern Conference’s leading vote-getter. That meant drafting 12 players to Team Durant to play against a LeBron James-drafted team. Pacers big man Domantas Sabonis will replace Durant on the All-Star team.
For the Nets, winners of eight straight, Durant will miss games against the Mavericks, Spurs and Rockets before a possible return March 11 against the Celtics.
