A Queens home health aide was charged with stealing nearly $100,000 from an 89-year-old blind woman that she cared for, prosecutors announced Sunday.
Sita Saunders, 61, is accused of ripping off the victim over the course of 11 months beginning in March 2019, according to a press release from Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.
Saunders is suspected of inflating her weekly paychecks — which she had the victim sign — from $1350 to up to $3,350, prosecutors said.
In total, she is accused of bumping up her pay by $9,000.
The suspect is also accused of withdrawing over $81,000 from the elderly woman’s bank account, the release said.
An investigation into Saunders began after the victim’s son noticed an unusual amount of money draining from his mother’s bank accounts and contacted the district’s attorney’s office.
Saunders, who cared for the victim for roughly 10 years, is facing charges of grand larceny, identity theft and criminal possession of stolen property.
