NORMAN — A University of Oklahoma fraternity has been suspended and a sorority disciplined, the university confirmed to The Oklahoman on Saturday.
Delta Upsilon fraternity has been placed on emergency suspension, and Delta Gamma sorority is now on limited status, as first reported Friday by the school’s newspaper, the OU Daily.
The international executive offices of both chapters chose the discipline.
Delta Upsilon’s international office placed the OU chapter on emergency suspension on Wednesday after “receiving reports the chapter may be in violation of Fraternity policy,” a spokesperson for the fraternity’s headquarters wrote in an emailed statement.
“The emergency suspension temporarily pauses all chapter activities while policy violation allegations are investigated,” the Delta Upsilon spokesperson said. “Findings from the investigation will determine if the emergency suspension should be lifted or if disciplinary action is needed for the chapter or individual members.”
Delta Gamma’s international office did not respond to a request for comment.
OU Fraternity and Sorority Programs and Services and the Office of Student Conduct are conducting separate investigations into the Greek chapters.
“Upon the conclusion of the investigations, the university will handle as appropriate,” OU said in a statement.
The university did not respond to questions about the reasons for the fraternity’s suspension and the sorority’s discipline.
Delta Upsilon landed on emergency suspension in 2018. All chapter activities ceased during the suspension period. The OU Daily later reported the fraternity chapter violated the university’s hazing and alcohol policy.
