Kevin Reese, the Yankees’ senior director of player development, said he saw top prospect Jasson Dominguez in the instructional league in the Dominican Republic last year and “so far, [he’s] as advertised. This guy does everything really well.”
Still, Reese hopes the hype surrounding the 18-year-old subsides.
“I don’t really think it’s fair,’’ Reese said. “He’s super-talented, [but] he hasn’t played a game here yet, so it’s hard to help him manage those expectations because he’s not gonna show up tomorrow and perform like a Mike Trout or Aaron Judge or Brett Gardner.”
Instead, they’re focused on letting him develop like other prospects.
“Our goal is to get the best Jasson Dominguez possible and hopefully that’s a really good player that helps us win games and win championships,” Reese said.
